Digital Altar Space for the New World
This is a space of grounding for you.
We understand that this path is not always simple nor easy; and because of this knowing, we invite you to visit here often, just as you would visit an altar.
We want you to remember this; we are here for you as we have walked similar paths before you. We can never be the expert of your life - but we can support you to become one for yourself.
-
Consciousness of Radical Equity Leadership program is built upon THREE PILLARS: equity, spirituality and embodiment. At any given moment, you can offer yourself the space to reflect on where you are with these 3 concepts as lived truths. Sometimes you may hear clear answers, other times, confusion. We want to remind you that confusion is not the lack of growth; rather it is a necessary process of decolonization. Not knowing where you are is sometimes the reminder needed to guide your way home. Do not stop - ask for help - we’ll get there, wherever.
-
Learning here is not at all linear. Our cyclical system RESOURCE - INTEGRATE - APPLY invites us to continue spiraling upward. it is not neatly packaged as ‘memorize this, and do not make mistakes’.
For most minds educated in the Western framework of learning, this maybe more shocking than you may have expected.
We want you to know this - that is what decolonization feels like sometimes. What we thought to be true, real or normal was propped up on something false, and it has to crumble down at some point.
When this comes , we ask you NOT TO HIDE. Our faculty has signed up here to guide you through your confusion, doubts, guilt, shame, and what you may consider mistakes. In this learning laboratory, those who are willing to fail out loud gains the most, while offering everyone the permission to be fully human.
So please DO NOT HIDE from being fully human. We welcome you.

Our Community Agreements allows us to co-create the space of bravery and safety together.
Here is MINKA community agreement we will be working from. Please have this list accessible when you join your sessions.
As a quick reminder, we list the following when communicating and convening with others from this community:
Assume good intentions of others in the cohort
Be accountable to the impact of your words and actions regardless of your intentions
Practice noticing your tiggers
Build a practice of grounding in real time as we gather

We approach conflict through Restorative Process at MINKA baed on circle work and restorative Justice principles. To this end, we see conflict as a possible space of learning, where we invite deep listening and and generative presence with rather than quick fixes. This requires and invites us to be response-able.
Please reach out to the lead facilitator of the module if the conflict arises during the session.
If this is outside of the learning module, please reach out to both mamabear.minka@gmail.com and minkacommunity@gmail.com .

When your questions are relating to module materials, teaching style, and things witnessed during the live sessions, please reach out to the module facilitator(s).
If your questions and concerns are not related to the module, and are centered around payment, or other logistics, please reach out to both minkabrooklyn@gmail.com and minkacommunity@gmail.com .

Life happens - and here are some suggestions for you to consider:
First, we ask you to reach out for support, either during the Integration session or privately using the links above.
Coordinate with your learning pod.
With proper approvals, you may be able to learn self-paced for a period of time as long as you are in communication with your pod and faculty.
Take a pause - you can get permission to pause your study, and resume with the next cohort.
-
When embarking on decolonial learning process, it is very common for the mind to go ‘haywire’; this is a natural response when confronted with the dissonance of the reality. You may find it hard to believe - but this means you are exactly where you need to be! This will not be forever, and we are here with you every step of the way.
Here are a few reminders:
Lean into the resourcing session materials - breathwork, somatics, ancestral reverence… You may have a lot more tools than you remember at the moment.
Reach out for support - pod members, other cohorts, faculty, administration - you can find the contact list above under ‘support request’.
We do not know how to support you when we do not know your struggles. Please be sure to let us know how you are doing!
-
Community building in the digital era is challenging, and we want to make sure you can feel connected in this learning space.
Here are a few tips on how to move beyond the discomfort of digital community space:
Know your communication style, and let others know. “I reply to emails best’, “I am not good at group chat”, “Please call me or leave me a voice note”. While circumstances may not allow this all the time, most people will try their best to honor explicit request.
Set up a regular pod meet-up so you gain familiarity over time. We suggest not only focus on ‘work’ but simply get. to know each other by doing something fun. It makes it easier to meet when it is scheduled beforehand.
Examine your expectation - we all want community, and we often do not know how to be in non-transactional community. Be transparent in communication, and use the community agreement with your peers.
If you have other cohort members locally, consider meeting up in person!
-
We expect students to attend a minimum of 80% of the live class sessions. we understand that life happens, so we ask you communicate your absence at least two weeks in advance when possible.
We ask that if you miss a class, you watch the video of live session before the next class. You may also want to connect with another cohort member for clarity around content and assignments.
